Essence Atkins Denies Dating Marlon Wayans: “The Assumption Makes Me Mad”

Essence Atkins is setting the record straight on her dating life. It’s been long rumored that the actress and Marlon Wayans have a thing going on. Just in, she’s shutting down these claims.

During a recent interview, the 53-year-old clarified the relationship between her and Marlon. “I don’t like when people say me and Marlon dated.. Never happened,” she began.

“One of the reasons that I get so upset about it is because it undermines the fact that we are such good friends and he has ward for me, he has championed me, he has advocated for me just based on GP, just based on love.. Brother sister love and it does exist and it can exist.”

Actress Essence Atkins reveals it makes her mad when people say she and Marlon Wayans dated.

She continued, “Everybody who’s single and attractive does not have to sleep together and the more that you realize that.. and the reason again that I get upset about undermining what the true history between he and I is because I feel like it doesn’t encourage people to have wisdom.”

Atkins also mentioned that she would have forfeited many projects if she was reckless and prioritized fun over business.

“Like if I had been reckless enough..  I mean the man is very handsome and very talented and is an incredible human being, but I also know he’s not my person.. and if I hadn’t had wisdom and discernment to know that he’s not my person, I would have forfeited how many projects. how much money .. would I have let go for a fun night or two or three .. like nah.”

“I rather get that paper and have fun with my boy, my friend, my brother. That’s who he is to me and I have gained all of his other brothers because of it,” she concluded.

In an interview with PEOPLE earlier this year, the actress revealed she has nothing but love for the Wayans while discussing her longstanding working relationship with the comedians.
