Paris Olympics Organizers Apologize For Opening Ceremony ‘Last Supper’ Performance

The 2024 Paris Olympics has been a trending issue following the controversial opening segment which saw drag queens recreating the Last Supper.

The performance was a parody of the biblical scene of Jesus Christ and his disciples sharing a last meal before crucifixion.

Following heavy backlash and uproar from religious leaders and folks online, the Olympics organizers released a statement during a recent press conference apologizing for the segment and claim they never meant any disrespect.

“Clearly there was never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group. (The opening ceremony) tried to celebrate community tolerance,” Anne Deschamps, Paris 2024 spokesperson told a press conference.

“We believe this ambition was achieved. If people have taken any offence we are really sorry,” Anne added.

Also, the artistic director behind the opening act, Thomas Jolly, said religious subversion had never been his intention. “We wanted to talk about diversity. Diversity means being together. We wanted to include everyone, as simple as that,” he said.

As we previously reported, Masika Kalysha recently hopped on Twitter to blast the organizers. “Having drag queens ‘depict’ & mock Jesus & the 12 disciples at THE OPENING CEREMONY at the FREAKING OLYMPICS is disgraceful,” the Love and Hip Hop star wrote.

“What is the agenda here? Forcing a billion ppl, children & athletes to unknowingly watch blasphemy during biggest sports event in the world!? Detestful!” she added.
