Oprah Winfrey & Gayle King Address Longstanding Rumor Of Them Being In A Gay Relationship

There have been rumors swirling around for a long time regarding Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King’s relationship, and just in, the duo are finally addressing the rumors and shutting down gay speculations.

The two recently sat down for an interview with Melinda French Gates where they talked about their bond and how they’ve maintained it.

During the interview, Melinda asked how the best-friends navigate with each other in the public eye versus their private lives, which prompted Oprah to make it clear that they’re pretty open and even brings up the gay rumors that they were “up against” for years.

“You know, for years, people used to say we were gay, and listen, we were up against that forever. And people still may think it,” the prolific talk show host said. Gayle then clarified that if they were romantically involved, they would make it known.

“I used to say Oprah, ‘You gotta do a show on this, because it’s hard enough for me to get a date on Saturday night with people thinking we’re gay, because if we were gay, we’d tell you,” King said.

According to Oprah, she began to realize that people just aren’t use to seeing women with a really close bond. The actress and author added that their 50 year friendship continues to work because Gayle is always happier for her than she is for herself and vice versa.

In her words said, the rumors probably keep circulating because people “aren’t used to seeing women with this kind of truth bond.”

She continued, “The reason why I think our friendship has worked is because Gayle is happier, not happy, but happier for me for any kind of success or victory or challenge I get through than I am for myself. And I feel as happy as she does — I can’t be happier than, cannot surpass Gayle.”

“You cannot out-happy her. I am equally as happy for her,” the 70-year-old added. Watch the interview below:
