Popular New York rapper CoachDaGhost, real name Bermudez, has been handed 60 years to life in prison from Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice John Hecht on 28 May 2025.

This was following the rapper’s involvement in a gangland ambush shooting in Canarsie, Brooklyn, on 13 March 2021, in which a teen was killed and another two were injured.

The unfortunate incident happened at the corner of Farragut Road and East 82nd Street in Canarsie, where the 31-year-old rapper, along with his co-defendant Naquan Pruitt, ambushed the trio of young men in what was described as an execution.

One of the victims, Bryan Sanon, was hit with multiple shots, including to the chest, and the 17-year-old died at the scene. Also, a 19-year-old was shot in both legs, and a 20-year-old was shot in the face. Although they both survived, they sustained serious injuries.

Coach was identified as a member of the Choo gang, and the incident was linked to an ongoing rivalry with the Woo gang, fueling a cycle of violence in the community.

After the shooting, the “Gooey Sauce” crooner ran away from New York after and was arrested in Georgia on July 6, 2021. He was then extradited to New York in December 2021 to face charges.

His co-defendant Naquan Pruitt, was apprehended in Pennsylvania on May 25, 2021, and returned to New York in June 2021. The legal proceedings spanned several years, culminating in the convictions and sentencing in May 2025.

After a lengthy legal process, Coach Da Ghost was convicted on May 7, 2025, of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree attempted murder, while Pruitt, was convicted on May 5, 2025, and sentenced to 25 years to life.

RapHouseTV reported on the case but gave an incorrect sentence years in their caption. The outlet wrote that Coach was sentenced to 20 years, when he was actually sentenced to 60 years, per Hypefresh.

Reacting to the incident, someone wrote: “Such a sad ending to what could’ve been a major success story. CoachDaGhost had real talent, but one decision changed everything. Prayers up for all families affected, this is a loss on all sides.”

“Its just not worth living majority of your life in prison. Pattern up people,” another person wrote. “The way these guys easily throw their lives away surprises me,” someone else added.
