A North Carolina police officer has been arrested after he shamelessly tried to steal $900 from a man he had detained during a traffic stop.

The disgraced police officer, Henry Chapman, was arrested back on March 14 and charged with one count of embezzlement after the incident in Charlotte.

According to reports, body cam footage shows Henry Chapman getting grilled by the man he detained over claims he stole his money. “There was no reason for you to pop the rubber band off my money,” the man who was in handcuffs said.

“I didn’t pop your rubber band off your money,” Chapman said defensively.

The detained man then predicted that if he was right, the money found in Chapman’s car would be about $1,000. Ultimately, he was close as the money was $900.

Per police affidavit, the crooked officer was ‘fidgeting around’ in his patrol car, according to a police affidavit, and another sergeant went to investigate and pulled out around $900 from the driver’s side door.

Chapman eventually got arrested and was placed on unpaid leave. The disgraced cop was forced to resign the next day and he’s set to to appear in court next month to face the charges.

The embarrassing news has since gone viral on social media, garnering reactions from disappointed netizens. “Imagine how many times he done that before. That’s definitely not his first time,” someone commented.

“Smh. And they expect us to feel safe around police. When they lie, cheat, steal, murder, and think they are above the law,” another person wrote. “Y’all suppose to hold yourself to a higher standard and time after time again officers repeatedly failure to be honest public servants.”
