Buzzing female rapper, Sexyy Red, is currently facing backlash over her raunchy music. However, MC Lyte, one of the pioneers of female rap, has come out to defend the rapper against critics of her style of music.

During an interview with TNT, Lyte, real name Lana Michele Moorer, said the “Pound Town” rapper shouldn’t receive backlash for raunchy music.

“Let’s talk about Sexyy Red and her content, she gets a lot of backlash, people feel like it’s too vulgar.. or ‘Omg, the kids are listening to this,’ what are your thoughts when you see things like that?” The Neighborhood Talk’s DeAsia Robinson asked Michele.

“Nothing that we see is really new. We’ve all lived through Trina, Lil Kim, Foxy.. we lived that. So, nothing surprises us,” Mc replied.

“As an artist that’s a creator, everyone is always pushing the limit and their boundaries,” she continued. “But also she didn’t pop out from a planet, she came from a neighborhood where this is how they speak to one another, this is how they communicate.”

This is definitely art imitating life. I think it’s important for people to know.. it appears to me that she’s been herself. Whenever you’re being yourself, how can anybody argue with that?” she added.

Couple days back, a woman went viral after she made a video where she shared several reasons why she “hates” the St. Louis-born rapper. The woman accused Sexyy Red of having a “detrimental” impact on the Black community and of being a negative influence on young women.

She also urged viewers to have conversations with their children about Sexyy Red to let them know that “this is not the way to go.” “She is going to tear your daughters’ self-esteem down,” she claimed.

“Sexyy Red is making a mockery out of Black girls’ hair and saying it looks like carpet and saying that it’s unattractive, along with turning your daughter into wh*res. I hate this b*tch with everything in me,” the woman added.

An unfazed Sexyy Red reacted to the criticism by quoting the post, writing: “It’s Sexyy spell it right,” alongside a kiss emoji. Check it out below:
