Baltimore Teacher Claims 12-Year-Old Girl He Raped Told Him She Was 22

A Baltimore teacher has been arrested and charged after raping a 12-year-old who he claims he was in a relationship with.

The 24-year-old Mervo High School teacher, Lewis Laury, has been charged with second-degree rape and sexual offense in the third degree.

According to a report by CBS News, Lewis is a certified employee with Baltimore City public schools. However, his crimes happened at his apartment building. The girl’s family reported her missing on June 21 and Police found her a week later at Laury’s apartment.

Per court documents obtained by WJZ, the teacher’s number was found on the phone of the girl’s friend and the phone number was traced to Laury, where authorities found out he lived in the same apartment complex as the child.

Lewis and the 12-year-old girl reportedly met on a playground but he claims the child told him she was 22-years-old. The young girl however told police that he had sex with her numerous times while she was at his apartment.

Mervo High School principal sent a letter to families, saying, “I can assure you that our Mervo team and City Schools take this matter seriously. City Schools’ Human Capital Office is aware of the arrest and will take appropriate action.”

Lewis was held without bail despite promising that he would move and stay away from the child if he was released. He is reportedly facing 30 years in prison if convicted.
