On Sunday, the National Football League and Apple Music announced Kendrick Lamar as the headliner of the Super Bowl half-time show in New Orleans LA on February 9.

This will be the second time the Compton spitter  will perform in one of the most coveted events in music, but will be the first time he’ll headline as a solo act.

‘My name is Kendrick Lamar and I’ll be performing at Super Bowl LIX. Will you be pulling up? I hope so,” the Pulitzer Prize-winning artist said in the clip. “You know there’s only one opportunity to win a championship. No round twos. Let’s get it, boom!”

He continued, “I wouldn’t want you to miss it. Meet me in New Orleans [on] February 9, 2025. Wear your best dressed too, even if you’re watching from home. Let’s go, yeee! It’s what I’m talking about, man. Now we can get to it for real.”

The 37-year-old rapper is seen in the video manning a football passing machine on the field in front of a massive American flag.

“Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one,” the ‘Not Like Us’ hitmaker said in a statement.

While some fans have been hyped up following the announcement, some are convinced it’s disrespectful to snub Lil Wayne who’s from New Orleans and pick KDot as the headliner.

Fans of the legendary New Orleans rapper have been reacting to the decision, slamming NFL and Jay-Z for disrespecting Weezy by picking Kendrick over him in his hometown. The controversy has sparked an uproar and debate amongst fans on social media.
