An Atlanta Lyft driver was fatally shot in the head three times by a police officer who thought he was being kidnapped and recruited in a “gay fraternity” by the driver. According to the officer, he was hearing voices in his ear.

On the morning of May 15th, the 35-year-old culprit, Koby Minor, allegedly heard an “unknown voice” in his ear while Reginald Folks was driving him home.

Although Minor didn’t reveal the exact words said by the voices, he told the police that he believed the driver was using an “unknown language.” The rideshare driver also continued on the route after Koby begged him to stop.

When they got to a red light at an intersection, Koby tried leaving the vehicle and Reginald started reaching for the back which eventually led to him being fatally shot three times in the head. Unfortunately, he died at the scene.

Koby in his statement to the authorities, said he believed Reginald belonged to a “gay fraternity” and that he was being abducted to be recruited into the group, per WSB-TV.

Minor resigned the day he was detained after six years with the Atlanta Police Department, and he was taken into custody. His bond was rejected and he’s since been on administrative leave with Atlanta Police following his arrest on an unrelated charge in Milton in December 2023.

Reginald’s friends and family showed their support by gathering in the Fulton County courtroom. The late driver was an upcoming wrestler who trained at World Wrestling Alliance 4. His wrestling instructor says a memorial competition is in the works.

According to Folks’ coach, he was using Lyft to bolster his wrestling fund. Koby was ultimately charged with murder and aggravated assault.
