50 Cent Wins $1 Billion In Court Over ‘Power’ Lawsuit From Ex Drug Kingpin
50 Cent Wins $1 Billion Lawsuit Against Former Drug Kingpin Over ‘Power’ Series
50 Cent has a new win in his collection of legal victories. The rapper and business mogul has defeated a former drug kingpin that sued him for $1 billion over claims the hit series “Power” was based on his life.
The ex drug lord Cory “Ghost” Holland, alleged that the rapper stole his life story for the plot of the STARZ show, and initially filed the billion-dollar lawsuit back in 2021, naming co-creator Courtney Kemp, STARZ, and Lionsgate, in addition to 50 Cent.
According to AllHipHop, Cory “Ghost” Holland argued that he detailed his life story in a 2007 CD titled Blasphemy, which he sent to Kemp’s father, hoping it would help him find a way to legitimately earn a living and get out of the drug trade.
Judge Analisa Torres eventually sided with Fif and ruled that the show never directly refers to Holland, as required for a defamation claim, adding that other similarities boil down to mere coincidences.
In another lawsuit, the former drug kingpin further accused 50 Cent and his associates of harassing and threatening him by showing up and playing a song near his home.
AllHipHop obtained a letter from Holland warning the rapper not to threaten him again. “If a motherf**ker gets killed because your motherf**king client threaten me and my family, file a motherf**king motion for that. I ain’t playing with your motherf**king client no more, next time he or anyone he sends pull up, f**k the litigation,” the letter reads.
Cory “Ghost” Holland lost that case as well. “There is no indication that this conduct constituted a threat, much less an ‘imminent threat of harmful contact’ as required for an assault claim,” Judge Analisa Torres ruled.
Reacting to his win, the G-Unit founder took to Twitter to slam the former drug kingpin. He shared a screenshot of the report from HNHH, writing: “Fool thought he was GHOST da fuck wrong wit these n*ggas man. LOL.”
