Two Women Arrested After Helping Multiple New Orleans Jail Escapees Get Food & Transportation
Two women have been arrested and charged as accessories after New Orleans police accused them of aiding some of the NOLA jail escapees.
Cortnie Harris, 32, is accused of being in contact with Leo Tate, one of the five fugitives still at large. She allegedly communicated with the inmates prior to the escape and drove two of them to multiple locations around New Orleans while they were on the run.
The second woman, Corvanntay Baptiste, 38, is accused of assisting Corey Boyd, a fugitive who was captured yesterday. The police say Baptiste brought food to Boyd while he was hiding in a residence after escaping jail.
Both women have been booked and sent to the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center following their arrests. They each face up to five years in prison if convicted.
News spread that 10 inmates escaped the Orleans Parish Correctional Facility on Friday night, which was recorded on the jail’s surveillance footage. They reportedly crawled through a hole hidden behind a toilet, scaled and then jumped the jail’s barbed wire fence before running across the highway into a neighborhood.
According to Fox News, five of the escapees have been arrested and five other inmates are still at large. Lenton J. Vanburen Jr., 26, faces charges of illegal carrying of weapons, possession of a firearm or weapon by a felon, obstruction of justice and introducing contraband in prison.
Jermaine Donald, 42, faces charges of second-degree murder, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm or weapon by a felon and obstruction of justice. Antoine Massey, 32, faces charges of domestic abuse involving strangulation, theft of a motor vehicle and a parole violation.
Derrick Groves, 27, faces three counts of attempted second-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder and battery of a correctional facility employee.
Leo O. Tate Sr., 31, faces charges of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, possession of a firearm or weapon by a felon, illegal carrying of a weapon, motor vehicle theft and multiple drug counts.
