Mexican TikToker, Valeria Marquez, Shot & Killed While Live-Streaming From Her Beauty Salon

Popular Mexican social media influencer, Valeria Marquez, was reportedly shot to death during a TikTok livestream. The unfortunate incident is amid the high levels of gender-based violence in the country.

The 23-year-old TikToker is known for her videos about beauty and makeup. Reports of her death came as a shock to fans and netizens.

Valeria was killed on Tuesday in the beauty salon where she worked in the city of Zapopan by a man who entered and shot her. According to the Jalisco state prosecutor, she is being investigated according to protocols for femicide – the killing of women or girls for reasons of gender.

“What’s up with ppl being unalived on live? This is getting weird,” someone commented on X, formerly Twitter. “Something is really wrong here to be honest , why always the TikTokers?” another person wondered.

The Mexican authorities said Femicide involves degrading acts against the female gender, such as violence sexual abuse, a relationship with the murderer, or the victim’s body being exposed in a public space.

However, the prosecutor’s office did not name a suspect. Prior to the incident, the young lady was seen on her TikTok livestream seated at a table clutching a stuffed toy. “They’re coming,” she said before a voice in the background asked “Hey, Vale?”

“Yes,” she replied, before muting the sound on the livestream. Not long after, Marquez was shot to death. Someone then picked up her phone, with their face briefly showing on the livestream before the video ended.

Valeria had approximately 200,000 followers across Instagram and TikTok. Earlier on the live, she said on that someone came to the salon when she was not there with an “expensive gift” to deliver to her.

According to Reuters, the influencer appeared concerned, and said she was not planning to wait for the person to come back.
