MYA Reveals She Once Abstained From Sex For Seven Years

2000s R&B star MYA, was recently a guest on threat Angela Yee‘s Way Up podcast on Thursday (July 25) and spoke to the media personality about her journey through celibacy.

While on Angela Yee’s popular radio show, the singer explained that while looking for love, she was once celibate for more than 7 years.

“What about this celibacy thing.. what was the longest you in?” the host asked. “7 years.. it’s like divine,” the singer who is all about health and wellness replied, adding that she that she needed a “cleanse” from men. Although she is no longer celibate, she refused to talk about her current relationship.

Mya said clarity was the main result after being asked about the benefits of staying away from sex. “Mental clarity. It shifted my mindset. It was no longer a focus,” she explained.

“The rush to be in a relationship, the rush to be married, the rush to be in something because that’s what you’re taught to do — to have kids or to procreate. There’s a lot of pressure on women to be able to do that.”

The 44-year-old continued, “Why are we taught that we have to be taken or made an honest woman? … Love is beautiful, and I think the world always needs more of it, but I think you must start with yourself. I have to start with self always, versus expecting from other sources. It was just reconditioning.”

“It’s something that was necessary, because it’s a very spiritual thing. You must be very selective if you want better results. That self-accountability started with me by shutting that part of my life off ,” the Grammy Award winner added.
