NFL Draft Prospect Kyren Lacy Was In An Argument That Led To Police Chase & Car Crash

Heartbreaking news of the death of LSU football player Kyren Lacy previously made headlines, and his death was initially reported as an alleged suicide, all the details surrounding the incident weren’t available at the time.

A call was made from a woman around 11:15 PM in Houston, reporting a situation involving a firearm, according to TMZ.

The woman said Lacy had gotten into an argument with one of her family members, fired a gun into the ground, then left the area. The police later spotted his car and tried to pull him over but, things escalated to a chase once the 24-year-old didn’t stop.

Unfortunately, the car crashed and when police approached to take him into custody, they found him deceased with a gunshot wound.

Kyren’s father, Kenny Lacy, made a post on Facebook urging parents to really check in on their children’s mental health. Apparently, Kenny is suggesting that Kyren wasn’t in the best mental state as he said “Don’t be cool with “I’m Alright, or I’m good” when you know deep down something isn’t right”.

The NBA draft prospect was facing an upcoming trial after being charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run with death and reckless operation of a vehicle.

This stems from charges for a car accident in December 2024 where Lacy allegedly left a 78-year-old victim at the scene with no assistance and left.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office released a report saying officers had found Lacy had been found dead after crashing his car during a pursuit. The report said he had apparently taken his own life.

“It is with profound sorrow that we confirm the tragic passing of Kyren Lacy. First and foremost, we ask that the public and the media give his family the space and time they need to grieve this unimaginable loss in peace,” Lacy’s attorney, Matthew Ory, said in a statement to ESPN.
