Grandmother Of One Of The Escaped Inmates Arrested For Sending Grandson Money
A grandmother has been arrested following the audacious prison break at the Orleans Justice Center in New Orleans, where 10 inmates escaped through a hole behind a jail toilet.
Connie Weeden, a grandmother of one of the escaped inmates has been arrested for allegedly helping her grandson Jermaine Donald.
Authorities say Connie is charged with one felony count of accessory after the fact. The elderly woman was booked at St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center after evidence showed she communicated with Donald before and after the May 16th escape and sent him money using a phone app.
Weeden is reportedly facing up to five years in prison, a $500 fine, or both if convicted. It’s noteworthy that her grandson Donald, faces serious charges, including second-degree murder and weapon possession as a felon.

Netizens have also been reacting to the reports. “He’s granny’s baby…not a criminal in her eyes…Free Granny!” someone commented. “Free her! My grandma would’ve did the same!” another person wrote.
This will make the third civilian arrest in connection with the escape. We previously reported that two women, Cortnie Harris and Corvanntay Baptiste were taken into custody, accused of helping other escapees with transportation.
According to BallerAlert, the state police said: “Those who choose to assist or conceal these individuals are violating the law and will be held accountable. Harboring fugitives threatens the safety of our communities and will not be tolerated.”
CCTV footage shows the inmates prying a sliding door off its track around 4 a.m. while a lone guard left to get food. They then removed a toilet from the wall and slipped out undetected until a headcount at 8:30 a.m.
Five escapees remain on the run, namely Jermaine Donald, Antoine Massey, Lenton Vanburen Jr., Derrick Groves, and Leo Tate Sr.
