Ciara Reveals Her Song ‘Goodies’ Almost Went To Britney Spears
Ciara Says Her Debut Single ‘Goodies’ Almost Went To Britney Spears
We all know it’s a lot of things happening behind the scenes in the music industry, but we had no idea Ciara’s debut single almost went to fellow singer Britney Spears.
The R&B star recently stopped by at The Kelly Clarkson Show where she made some revelations. According to Cici, her hit single “Goodies,” almost went to another pop superstar, Britney Spears.
“I learned about this later, but they were trying to give my song to Britney Spears,” she said before clarifying that Britney Spears wasn’t behind the move. “I know Britney wasn’t the one trying to take my song, because I love Britney.”

For context, Cici was an upcoming singer at the time and apparently, the label had Britney Spears in mind, considering the fact that she was already a superstar. Fortunately for Ciara, she knew the song was special and held on to it.
“That song was my baby. ‘Goodies’ is where everything began for me,” the 38-year-old said, while speaking on how the song skyrocketed her career.
“I bet you those goodies would have sounded nice coming from her,” Ciara said on what it would have been like if Spears actually sang the song.
The said song “Goodies” eventually was released by Ciara, featuring rapper and Jive recording artist Petey Pablo , launching her career and becoming one of the biggest hits of the early 2000s. “It’s crazy to think about, but it all worked out,” the singer added.
The song paved the way for more hits like “1, 2 Step” and “Oh,” and her whole debut album of the same name scored big. ‘Goodies’ was released as the album’s lead single on June 8, 2004, through LaFace Records.
