Chloe Bailey did not hold anything back during her recent interview with Nylon Magazine, where she revealed why her music is categorized as R&B.

In the interview with Nylon, the songstress named Whitney Houston and Beyonce as the two people who inspire her the most due to their willingness to experiment with different genres.

Chloe then said she likes making music that is ahead of the curve and how people initially don’t get her music but later on they begin to show appreciation and fall in love with her songs.

“What I kind of love about my art is that it sneaks up on you. When ‘In Pieces’ came out, not many people really got it,” she said.

“But now a year later, people are like, ‘Oh, it’s genius! It’s beautiful! It’s amazing!’ And if you think about it, that’s how it has been with me and my sister’s previous work as well. No one ever gets it when it first comes out,” the singer added.

According to the “Boy Bye” crooner, she regularly experiments with different sounds but noticed that more often than not black song creators are boxed in when it comes to their efforts to try different genres.

“Any music I do will easily and quickly be categorized as R&B because I’m a Black woman,” she said. “If someone who didn’t have my skin tone made the same music, it would be in the pop categories. That’s just the way it’s always been in life,” Bailey added.

She also applauded Bey for her latest smash album ‘Cowboy Carter’. “That’s why I was really proud of Beyoncé doing ‘Cowboy Carter’ because Black people originated country music,” she said. “It’s just showing that possibilities are endless.”
