Bronny James Pays Homage To Juice WRLD By Choosing 9 As His Lakers Jersey Number

Bronny James Honors Juice WRLD By Choosing 9 As His Lakers Jersey Number

Thursday 27th of June, was a special day for LeBron James as the NBA icon is now closer to fulfilling his dream of playing alongside one of his sons after the LA Lakers selected his 19-year-old son Bronny, in the NBA Draft.

Bronny was selected 55th overall by the Lakers towards the end of the second round of the 2024 draft after going undrafted in the first round on Wednesday.

The teenager has reportedly picked 9 as his jersey number in a bid to pay homage to one of his favorite artists, Juice WRLD. The oldest son of the four-time NBA MVP, recently shared a photo of himself in his new Lakers jersey on his IG story.

The photo sees him wearing the 9 jersey with a message paying homage to the late rapper. “999” he wrote on the photo, referencing Juice’s trademark number and iconic tattoo. Bronny also has a ‘999’ tattoo in honor of Juice WRLD.

During an interview with Sway on MTV’s TRL back in 2018, the rapper was asked about the meaning behind the number “999,” which he had tattooed on his arm and consistently referenced in his music, social-media pages and merchandise.

Juice explained at the time that the number was an inversion of 666, also known as “the mark of the beast,” a biblical term indicating Satan.

“999 represents taking whatever ill, whatever bad situation, whatever struggle you’re going through and turning it into something positive to push yourself forward,” the ‘Death Race For Love’ rapper said.

Bronny played 25 games as a guard in college at Southern California after suffering cardiac arrest during a summer workout last July. He worked out with his father earlier on Wednesday before they watched the first round of the draft, which consisted of 30 total picks.

“In the history of the NBA, there’s never been a father and a son that have shared an NBA basketball court and that feels like something that could be magical,” Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka, said in a statement.
