Angela Simmons Apologizes For Controversial Gun-Shaped Purse At The BET Awards

Angela Simmons made controversial headlines following her appearance at the 2024 BET Awards red carpet rocking a green gun-shaped purse.

She began trending on social media with many questioning why she would choose an accessory that sends off the wrong message.

Well, the reality TV star had some time to reflect and she’s owning her wrongs and admits it was a bad choice. Angela has now issued a public apology over the controversy. She shared a lengthy statement on her Instagram story, promising to do better.

“I understand the pain and hurt this has caused, especially to those who have been directly impacted by gun violence. For my entire life, I have always exemplified peace, unification, and the resolution of gun violence in America,” she wrote.

The 36-year-old continued, “I have personally lost my partner, the father of my child, to gun violence, and I have witnessed its devastating impact on my community in Southeast Queens. Gun violence is a disease that has taken too many lives, particularly among young people and Black men.”

“By carrying this purse, I did not intend to promote gun violence in any way. It was a mistake that does not define who I am or my commitment to ending gun violence. To anyone who was hurt or offended by my actions, I offer my deepest apologies.

Angela then revealed she’ll continue her dedication to make peace a reality for millions of children and families across America who, like her, have been directly impacted by gun violence. “I ask for your understanding and forgiveness and I hope you can accept my sincere apology.”

“While this incident was a misstep, I will not allow it to define my moral compass or my commitment to promoting peace and ending gun violence. Thank you for your continued support in this crucial mission,” she added.
