Georgia Man Sues Atlanta Hospital For Charging Him $19K For The Synthetic Replacement Of A Lost Piece Of Skull

A Georgia man is goin viral after suing an Atlanta hospital for his outstanding medical bills and emotional distress after they allegedly misplaced a piece of his skull and had the nerve to bill him for the replacement.

The furious man, Fernando Cluster, checked into Emory University Hospital Midtown back in September of 2022 for brain bleeding.

Doctors examined him and have multiple tests performed. It was however determined that 4.7-by-6 inch piece of his skull had to be temporarily removed to reduce the pressure on his brain and skull.

Fernando returned two months later to have the piece of skull replaced but the hospital allegedly could not identify the skull piece, according to the New York Post. The skull piece was allegedly lost in a pile of unidentified bone fragments by other patients.

“We inspected the freezer where bone flaps are stored and could not find a bone flap with Mr. Cluster’s patient identification,” a note in Clusters medical reads. “There were several bone flaps with incomplete or missing patient identification, but we could not be certain which if any of these belonged to Mr. Cluster.”

The scheduled surgery had to be postponed since Cluster’s skull piece was missing, while the hospital worked on fabricating a synthetic skull piece to implant into Clusters head.

The replacement was able to be implanted a few weeks later, towards the end of November. But shortly after the procedure the man began experiencing complications. After the synthetic bone replacement surgery Cluster contracted an infection and became ill, this resulted in him not being able to work for a period of time.

After getting this infection Fernando was treated and is in better condition today but after this was all said and done, he received a $146,800 bill in the mail! Which is insane due to the fact that the hospital allegedly misplaced his piece of skull.

The man and his wife are seeking medical expense damages, they would like to be compensated for the emotional distress they have gone through as well.
